Pathway to Citizenship

A mother raises her hand and recites the pledge she has practiced for years, making official what she has felt since she was a child – this country is home. Tomorrow will be the first day she wakes up without fear of being separated from her daughters because of her status. This fall she will have a vote and a voice in the issues that affect her family. She will volunteer at the community center that helped her take her first steps toward citizenship, and help others begin their own journeys. This pathway ensures that every Bay Area resident, regardless of where they were born, has access to the full benefits of the communities they have helped build, and that together, we call home.
